How to Look Up a Property Owner in Cook County Illinois

I work for a not-for-profit that builds new homes on vacant land and also rehabs existing properties and therefore I have to do a bunch of research on parcels of property and I figured I’d share how to track down a bunch of information using the publicly available websites.  In this post I share: How to look up a Property Owner in Cook County, Illinois.  What we’ll really be looking up is the name on record for the property taxes, which virtually always is the owner of the property.  First you need to know the property’s PIN (property index number), which I describe in my blog post here.  Once you have the property’s PIN move on to step 1.

Step 1: Visit the Cook County Treasurer’s Website here: www.cookcountytreasurer.com.

Step 2: Move your cursor over “Payments” in the top horizontal menu and click on “Payment Status.”

Step 3: Enter the property’s PIN and the 6-letter security code from the image to verify you are a human and not a computer.  Click Search.

Step 4: At the right side of the PIN summary you should see a brown button that says “Click Here to Pay or for Detailed Tax Information.”  Click on that button.

Step 5: View the person’s name and address being billed for the property tax, most likely the owner:
