I work for a not-for-profit that builds new homes on vacant land and also rehabs existing properties and therefore I have to do a bunch of research on parcels of property and I figured I’d share how to track down a bunch of information using the publicly available websites. The first one is: How to look up the PIN (Property Index Number) of a property. For example: you know the address but you need the PIN.
Step 1: Go to the Cook County Assessor’s Website: www.cookcountyassessor.com
Step 2: Under Search, click on “Property Search”. When you move your cursor over the word “Search” the menu will drop down below.

Step 3: In the left column click on “Property Address Search.” It will default to a PIN search at first.

Step 4: Enter the address or range of addresses numbers, street name (do not put ave, st, blvd), and city name and then click the “Search by Address” button. Note: the address range number is not required and you do not need to select either one of the drop-down menus under the Property Class section, they are optional.

Step 5: It will give you the property pin or list of pins for the address range:

There you have it.
