Repair a Plastic Basket’s Snap-On Handle With a Soldering Iron

Hardware:

  • Cheap Plastic Basket

The handles on my daughter’s cheap little plastic basket kept coming unsnapped. I put them on multiple times but either the hole that the basket handle snapped into was too big or the handle was too small–either way it was continually coming apart to the dismay of a 3-year-old’s heart.

My lovey-dovey 230/150W Soldering Iron

I decided to put together the handles and then melt the ends to make them too big to come out again.  You might be able to do this with a clothes iron but an iron may not get hot enough. Warm up your soldering iron and then gently heat the end, all the while mushrooming it so that it will not pull back through again.

Once you have melted the ends down, this is what you’ll have–a basket handle that doesn’t come apart anymore.  Repeat this on each end of the handle and now you have happy toddler.
