I purchased 2 of these Braun 50-slide compact slide magazines/trays and after using them for a while I noticed a trend–slide 25 would often show up as blank/white because the PowerSlide scanner arm would slip past the side of it.
This post is in conjunction with my two other posts on my experience scanning 35-mm slides. Please check out them as well:

Step 1: Take a closer look at slot number 25
After seeing the trend I took a better look at the tray slot 25 on each of those magazines and noticed some excess plastic where the black plastic meets the white plastic as seen below:
Extra black plastic lip on slot #25 causes the slide to stick |
Step 2: Use a sharp knife to scrape off the excess jagged plastic
This must be excess plastic that was not broken off after removing the part from the injection mold. You can scrape this excess plastic off with a knife:

Step 3: Try it again and see what happens.
After scraping off the excess plastic I have not had a problem with slide 25 since.

Braun sold 2 versions of magazines – white were for mounted slides, which has 2 layers of glass, and subsequently they sold a grey version which was for unmounted slides. (Just back from Kodak in the card mounts)
If you are using unmounted slides, the white ones will often misfeed.
Horses for courses, as they say.
So I have a Powerslide 3650 scanner and just ordered a new 50 magazine tray online because the edges of mine were worn out…I have scanned like 5000 slides already. But the one I ordered said it was for the Powerslide 3650 and the 5000. But it is a bigger one, not compact like my first one. It doesn’t seem to be working. It isn’t pushing the slide all the way in…the silver bar kind of hits the side. Should I return the bigger tray I got and get another compact magazine or should the new one I bought work?
Thanks for the question. I seem to remember trying to use the larger cartridge you are describing. I believe it is for larger (thicker) slides and it didn’t work so well for me either. I can tell you that the round high-capacity carousel tray never worked consistently for me because the inner corners of the slides were so close together and some of the cardboard slides would catch an adjacent slide. I’d say go with what is working for you and return the other one.
I think I remember more now–because the slides are so far apart, there’s a bit more room for the arm to slip off to one side and I do believe I had that same issue. I’d go back to the compact version which has the slots so close together that the adjacent slides guide the arm and keep it on the current slide.
