Re-programming or programming your 1998-2003 Toyota Sienna door remote is something you can do yourself–it is just a tedious thing to do. First park your van somewhere where you can safely open and close your driver’s side door (the street may not be the best place).
Hardware:
- 1999-2003 Toyota Sienna
- 1999-2003 Toyota Sienna Keyless Entry Key Fob Part GQ14VT14T
You have 40 seconds to complete these steps. Steps 1-9 place the van in programming mode and then (repeating) steps 10-11 allow you to program a single or multiple remotes.
Placing the Vehicle into Remote Programming Mode:
- Driver’s door open, all other doors closed, key removed from ignition.
- Insert and remove key from ignition
- Press lock and unlock on door lock switch at 1 second intervals 5 times:
a. Lock, unlock
b. Lock, unlock
c. Lock, unlock
d. Lock, unlock
e. Lock, unlock - Close and open driver’s side door
- Press lock and unlock on door lock switch at 1 second intervals 5 times:
a. Lock, unlock
b. Lock, unlock
c. Lock, unlock
d. Lock, unlock
e. Lock, unlock - Insert key into ignition
- Switch the ignition on and off (turn key only until dash lights come on, but do not start the engine):
a. twice to program a remote transmitter code (while erasing the original codes)
b. three times to check how many remote transmitters are currently registered. - Remove key from ignition
- System should now lock and unlock the vehicle twice (on its own)
Programming Remotes (after successfully completing the steps above):
- Press and hold lock and unlock buttons
- Press lock button for 1 second
- System should now lock and unlock vehicle:
a. once to confirm
b. twice to indicate failure - Repeat steps 10 and 11 to program another transmitter (a maximum of 4 remotes allowed)
- To exit programming mode close driver’s door or insert ignition key
- To end the programming mode shut the door or insert the key into the ignition
