Dell Optiplex GX520 |
If your Optiplex GX520 is just shutting off at random times but will reboot and start up fine after it has sat for a minute, then it is highly likely that you have a bad fan on the Optiplex’s power supply. We have about 25 of this model and systematically they ALL are developing this same problem and I figured it out that the fan on the power supply is going out. What happens is that the power supply overheats after a while and the power supply has some circuit to watch for overheating and it shuts off the computer. But when you let it cool off you can reboot it and it will come right up. You can either buy a new power supply or replace the fan in the existing one. I’ve replaced 4 or 5 of the fans and haven’t found one that didn’t work just fine after I replaced the fan.
