How to Connect an Analog Conference Phone to a Merlin Legend Phone System

Hardware:

At my office we have an aging but working Merlin Legend phone system.  The phone consoles look like the one in the picture below.  They have a Speaker-Phone button on them but they do not make a good conference phone.

So what options do you have?  Do you need to buy something specific to the Merlin system?  The answer is likely “no.”
If your Merlin Legend phone system has a “012 with Ring Gen” card then you can use in a standard analog conference phone.  I ended up choosing the Polycom VoiceStation 500 and got a good deal on one on ebay.com.

Plug the VoiceStation into one of the lower 8 ports of the “012 with Ring Gen” card:

Here I have plugged in a cat-5 cable to the analog jacks:

The red arrow indicated one of the analog ports

All you need to do is dial 9 to get an outside line on the VoiceStation and you are good to go!

  • Great post. We have a Merlin Magix system and are trying to hook up a speakerphone with one of those D8AC blue connectors. We can’t seem to make it work. Do you have any posts or ideas on this?

    • Scott, thanks for the question. I’m not familiar with that system but if it doesn’t have a card in it that has analog line ports then you’ll need to get an analog card for it.
